The Vacaville Police Department is asking the public’s help in locating a suspect who shot a man in the leg on Friday over an apparent traffic dispute, police said. Shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, the 27-year-old victim, a Concord resident, was driving west with two male passengers on Interstate Highway 80 through Vacaville when he noticed a black mid to late 90s four-door Lexus sedan tailgating his car very closely, according to a report submitted by Sgt. Mark Donaldson of the Vacaville Police Department. The suspect, a black man in his mid to late 20s, motioned for the victim to exit the highway at the Cherry Glen Road off-ramp, which he did, Donaldson said. The victim pulled over to the side of the road after exiting, but the suspect drove past him, Donaldson said. The suspect then made a U-turn and drove back to the victim’s car, which the victim had exited by that time, Donaldson said. The suspect stopped his car a short distance from the victim and brandished what appeared to be a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, Donaldson said. The suspect shot the victim once in the leg, then fired two more rounds that struck the victim’s car, Donaldson said. The police department was called at 6:03 p.m. and responding officers found the victim lying next to his vehicle suffering from the single gunshot wound, which was determined to not be life threatening, Donaldson said. The victim was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where he was treated for his wound, Donaldson said. Police are actively seeking the armed suspect who shot the Concord man, Donaldson said. He is described as being of “average height” with a thin build and no facial hair, Donaldson said. The suspect was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, frameless prescription glasses with rectangle-shaped lenses, and a black baseball cap with a purple brim, Donaldson said. The black Lexus the suspect drove had metallic gold logo lettering on it, Donaldson said. It had stock tires and rims, but all the windows were tinted, with the back windows shaded darker than the front ones, Donaldson said. The suspect and vehicle were last seen driving east on Cherry Glen Road toward the I-80 off-ramp, Donaldson said. It is possible the suspect may have driven up the off-ramp to reenter the westbound highway, Donaldson said. Despite an immediate search conducted with the assistance of the Solano County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol, neither the suspect nor the vehicle have been located, Donaldson said.
