Two people were killed this morning when a driver fleeing from California Highway Patrol officers crashed into another car in East Oakland. The chase began at about 2 a.m. when CHP officers on patrol spotted a 1988 BMW speeding west on Interstate Highway 580 and attempted to pull it over near 150th Avenue in San Leandro, CHP Officer Rob Tuazon said. The driver of the BMW did not stop, and the CHP began chasing him, Tuazon said. He took the Foothill/MacArthur Boulevard exit and continued on MacArthur to 106th Avenue, where he crashed into a sport utility vehicle, Tuazon said. The BMW’s driver was taken to Highland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Tuazon said. The driver of the second car was also killed in the crash. Both drivers were alone in their cars, Tuazon said. Oakland police are investigating the crash and are interviewing the CHP officers involved, he said.
