The California Department of Insurance, Fraud Division is currently seeking Ron Ranasingh on a $500,000 warrant charging him with Fraud. Detective Roderick Reyes reports that Ransingh allegedly conspired with three other suspects in staging three vehicle accidents that occurred between February 2003 and September 2004. After each accident, Ranasingh and others submitted tens of thousands of dollars in false insurance claims. The claims included treatments allegedly received by Ranasingh at chiropractic facilities in Hong Kong and Sri Lanka. Subsequent investigation revealed that the chiropractic facilities did not exist and that the claim for the treatments was fraudulent. As a result of the investigation conducted by the California Department of Insurance, Fraud Division. A $500,000 arrest warrant was issued for Ranasingh on August 17, 2006. On February 23, 2007, Ranasingh was arrested by Immigration Custom Enforcement (ICE) as he attempted to enter the United States in Miami. Ranasingh was subsequently extradited to Santa Clara County, and a preliminary hearing date was set. Ranasingh failed to appear at his preliminary hearing in September of 2007, and a no bail warrant was issued for his arrest. At the time he was scheduled to appear at his preliminary hearing Ranasingh claimed to be in Sri Lanka and had contracted Tuberculosis which restricted him from flying. He is a Canadian citizen and may be using a Canadian passport.
