An Oakland man who was killed in a shooting in Berkeley Tuesday morning has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as Gary Ferguson Jr., a police spokeswoman said today.Ferguson, 35, was one of two men shot on Sacramento Street south of Russell Street shortly before 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Berkeley police Sgt. Mary Kusmiss said.Officers responding to 911 calls found the two victims lying on the sidewalk just south of the Johnson’s House Styles barber shop at 2914 Sacramento St.Ferguson died from his injuries at a local hospital while the other victim suffered gunshot wounds to his lower body and was in serious condition as of Tuesday, Kusmiss said.No arrests have been made, and no suspect information was immediately available. Although the investigation is still in its early stages, Kusmiss said it appears the victims were targeted.There is one confirmed witness to the shooting, a juvenile from a local school. The Police Department’s youth services detail has been in contact with the principal of the school but is still awaiting the name of the witness, Kusmiss said.The homicide is the fifth in Berkeley so far this year.
