A nurse was attacked by an inmate at the county jail in Martinez on Monday, Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said today.Lee said the attack happened Monday afternoon in the intake area of the Martinez Detention Facility at 1000 Ward St.Information about the extent of the nurse’s injuries was not immediately available, but Lee conformed that she was taken to a hospital.The attack comes just days after an employee was murdered at Napa State Hospital, allegedly by a patient.That employee, Concord resident Donna Gross, 54, was found dead at about 7 p.m. Friday in an enclosed courtyard at the hospital. Gross was a psychiatric technician and had worked at the hospital for 14 years.Investigators have arrested patient Jess Willard Massey, 37, in connection with the killing. According to the Napa County Sheriff’s office, Massey has “an extensive criminal history” and was committed in 1993 after being declared insane.Massey has been booked into Napa County Department of Corrections on suspicion of robbery and murder.
