No drunken drivers were arrested during a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint in Santa Rosa Friday night, but the checkpoint netted two unrelated arrests, police said. Two people were arrested for possession of methamphetamine and parole violations after their vehicle was sent into a secondary screening area for a driver’s license check, police said. An officer and his canine, Taz, located the narcotics hidden in the vehicle’s gas cap compartment. Charles Farmer, 35, of Oakdale, and 36-year-old Royce Wilson, of Clearlake, were subsequently arrested, police said. The two were booked into Sonoma County Jail. The operation, which is funded by a grant from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the California Office of Traffic Safety, took place on Sebastopol Road at Dutton Avenue and on Santa Rosa Avenue at Sonoma Avenue. A total of 441 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and 27 vehicles were screened. Six citations were issued and four vehicles were impounded, police said. Police conduct the checkpoints in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the roadway and educate the public about the dangers of driving
under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to police. To report drunken drivers call 911.
