* Attempted Kidnapping of Child on Monterey Road in San Jose

ID #10-230

The San Jose Police Department is investigating an assault and attempted child abduction that occurred Tuesday, 10/12/10, around 11:45 a.m. The victim was walking north on Monterey Road with her one-year-old daughter, who was seated in a “push-and-ride” car being pushed by the victim.

The suspect, driving a red, two-door car, stopped on northbound Monterey Road, just north of the Rodling Condominiums entrance. The suspect exited his car and followed the victim on foot for several seconds before grabbing the victim and pushing her aside while reaching for the victim’s daughter.

The victim fought off the suspect, causing him to run back to his vehicle and flee. The suspect was described as an Hispanic male, in his late 20’s to early 30’s, 5’8″ to 5’9″ tall, average build, dark hair and eyes, and wearing a black tee shirt and a navy blue mechanic’s style jumpsuit. The suspect was also described as being very sweaty and dirty with grease or oil.
