A 14-year-old boy was killed and another teenage boy was seriously injured in an apparent gang-related shooting in Salinas Monday afternoon, police said. The shooting was reported shortly before 3:15 p.m. in the 200 block of Maryal Drive, according to police. Officers arrived to find Alonso Morales suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the back. Morales was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Another 14-year-old boy was also shot, and was airlifted to a hospital in the Bay Area where he was listed in serious but stable condition as of Monday night. Morales and the other teen are students at North Salinas High School. As they walked on Maryal Drive near the school, the suspect approached on foot and began shooting before fleeing toward Elwood Street, police said. The shooter may have gotten into a tan mid-size vehicle that was seen leaving the area at the time. He is described as a Hispanic male between 17 and 21 years old who is dark-skinned, 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build, and was last seen wearing all dark clothing, according to police. The murder is being investigated as gang-related.
