Palo Alto police are encouraging residents to keep their windows closed, even on warm nights, after a family had their Volkswagen stolen while they slept over the weekend. The burglary occurred in the 1100 block of Hamilton Avenue sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. The burglar came in through an open window and snatched several personal items, including the keys to the family’s Volkswagen as they slept, police officials said. The burglar fled in the Volkswagen but officers later recovered the car in the 1200 block of Woodland Avenue in Menlo Park. Officers responded to the home around 6 a.m. but were not able to find the burglar. Residents are advised to keep their windows closed and to ensure that alarm systems, exterior lighting and other deterrents are in working order. Please call the Fugitive Watch hot line at 1-800-9-CAUGHT (1-800-922-8448) or text us at 408-355-0999 or CLICK HERE to send a confidential email tip, if you have any information that can help solve this crime.
