A routine traffic stop Saturday afternoon in Castroville turned into a drug possession arrest for the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies signaled for a 1988 gray Toyota truck to pull over at the intersection of Merritt and Mead streets just after 2 p.m. Saturday. The car was pulled over for a simple traffic violation, but during the stop deputies searched the vehicle with the consent of the driver, 48-year-old Watsonville resident Joaquin Hernandez, according to the sheriff’s office. As the search was under way, Moreno allegedly admitted to them that he was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s office. Moreno was then arrested and his truck was towed.
