The second man convicted in the shooting murder of Fairfield City Councilman Matt Garcia was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison this morning in Solano County Superior Court in Vallejo.Gene Combs, 47, of Suisun City, was convicted of second-degree murder on June 3. His co-defendant, Henry Don Williams, 34, of Fairfield, was convicted in May of first-degree murder and personal use of a firearm, and was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison. The men were tried separately before Judge Robert Bowers.Garcia, 22, was shot once in the back of the head while visiting a friend in the 5000 block of Silverado Drive in Cordelia at about 8:15 p.m. on Sept. 1, 2008.Garcia was kept on life support for several days until his family could donate seven of his organs.The prosecution presented testimony at the trials that Williams shot Garcia while Combs remained inside a parked car driven by Williams’ girlfriend, Nicole Stewart.Combs and Williams had gone to Cordelia to find a drug dealer who owed Combs $50 in a drug deal, according to trial testimony. Prosecutors said Williams mistook Garcia for the drug dealer when Garcia drove by in his Cadillac.Williams testified at his trial that Combs shot Garcia.
