The driver of a stolen van intentionally struck a Fremont police motorcycle officer late this morning, a police spokesman said.The van was reported stolen at 10:30 a.m. The officer was on his motorcycle when he spotted the van near Warm Springs Road and Mission Boulevard at about 11 a.m., Sgt. Chris Mazzone reported. “The suspect sees the officer and hit him on purpose,” Mazzone said.Fremont firefighters responded to the accident.”He was pinned underneath the motorcycle, which was pinned underneath the van,” Deputy Fire Chief Geoff LaTendresse said.LaTendresse said the van came to a rest against a light pole.The collision disabled the van and the suspect fled on foot.He is described as Hispanic, 25-30 years old and 6 feet tall, with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a blue or black baseball cap, a red sweatshirt and blue jeans.”We have established a perimeter and are searching for that suspect,” Mazzone said.The officer was transported to a San Jose trauma center. Police have not disclosed the extent of his injuries, though LaTendresse said the officer was conscious and alert during the extrication.
