A man wanted in connection with a 2007 child molestation investigation in Redwood City has been apprehended in Guatemala and is facing extradition. Manuel Zetino, 37, a former Redwood City resident, was identified as a person of interest in the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl, according to an announcement made Thursday by the Redwood City Police Department. Zetino allegedly fled the U.S. to avoid prosecution and a $750,000 warrant issued for his arrest. Redwood City police detectives and the FBI obtained an Unlawful
Flight to Avoid Prosecution warrant for Zetino’s international arrest and he was taken into custody on Aug. 12 in the city of Peten with the cooperation of Guatemalan authorities. He will remain in custody in Guatemala while prosecutors in the U.S. seek his extradition, according to police.
