Police arrested an 18-year-old man and four juveniles Thursday for an alleged gang assault on a man and two young children who were sitting in a parked car.The suspects shouted gang challenges and threw rocks and bottles at the vehicle that was parked on Ninth Street in the Railroad Square area of Santa Rosa around 3:20 p.m., Sgt. Rainer Navarro said.Glass shards flew into the vehicle and cut two boys, ages four and six, Navarro said. They were treated and released at the scene, Navarro said.The adult victim flagged down a police officer at Ninth Street and Cleveland Avenue and the officer spotted the five suspects walking on Ninth Street, Navarro said.Police searched neighborhoods and businesses and detained four juveniles at Tenth and Wilson streets. Another suspect was detained at Ninth Street and Cleveland Avenue. Police found rocks, bottles and a pipe in the area, Navarro said.Police arrested Claudio Vasquez, 18, of Santa Rosa, three 14-year-old boys and a 15-year old boy for assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and two gang-related enhancements.Vasquez was booked into the Sonoma County jail and the juveniles were booked into the Sonoma County Juvenile Justice Center.The suspects are believed to be gang members but the victims are not, Navarro said.
