An Antioch man charged with attempted murder in connection with an apparent road rage shooting Thursday that seriously injured a 34-year-old Sacramento man had been out on bail pending trial in a 2008 assault case. Cornelius Brown, 24, who also had an address in San Francisco, was charged Tuesday with attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle and possession of marijuana for sale. He is also facing enhancements for allegedly committing the offenses while out on bail and intentional discharge of a firearm, according to court records.  Antioch police said the shooting happened at about 8:20 a.m. in the area of Somersville Road and Delta Fair Boulevard. The victim and his passenger told police that they had been stopped at a red light on Somersville Road at Delta Fair Boulevard when a white, four-door sedan pulled up behind them, police said. When the light turned green, the white car went around them on the left and then both vehicles made a right turn onto Delta Fair Boulevard. As they were making the turn, the driver of the white car fired a shot at the victim. The bullet went through the driver’s side door and struck the victim in the back. The white car then sped away west on Delta Fair Boulevard. The victim called police and was taken to a hospital, where he was last reported to be in critical but stable condition, police said. While investigating the case, police reviewed footage from surveillance cameras near the scene and identified the gunman’s car, which had been caught on several cameras, police said. On Friday, a patrol officer spotted the car and pulled it over near the scene of the shooting. The officer contacted Brown and found a loaded gun in his car, police said. During a subsequent search of Brown’s home, police also allegedly found a rifle, ammunition and marijuana packaged for sale, police said. According to police, Brown admitted to the shooting and was arrested and booked into county jail. Brown had been out on $30,000 bail in connection with assault charges stemming from a June 30, 2008, incident.    Details about that case were not immediately available, but according to court records, Brown and a co-defendant, William Lane, 22, had been charged with assault with force likely to cause bodily harm with enhancements for causing great bodily injury. They were also charged with making criminal threats. That case was scheduled to go to trial in October. Brown is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges at 1:30 p.m. today in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez.
