A man was shot and injured by police early this morning after running away from officers and later brandishing a weapon, a Concord police spokesman said. An officer spotted the man on foot and attempted to stop him at about 2:30 a.m. today near Clayton Road and Ashbury Drive. The man, who is in his 20s, matched the description of a suspect who has outstanding warrants for burglary, Concord police Lt. Jim Lardieri  said. The man fled down Ashbury Drive while several responding officers pursued him, Lardieri said. Two officers shot him after he allegedly displayed a weapon, he said. The suspect was taken to John Muir Medical Center to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds. Lardieri said he did not know the man’s condition. The two officers who shot the suspect are on paid administrative leave, Lardieri said. Concord police and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.
