A 57-year-old man was fatally shot at his Union City home Tuesday afternoon and his stepson is believed to be the shooter, police said today. Shortly after 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at 657 Whipple Road where they found Humberto Diaz, 57, suffering from gunshot wounds in the driveway, Union City police Lt. Kelly Musgrove said. Diaz was given medical aid at the scene then was transported to Eden Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds to his upper torso. He died at the hospital. When police arrived at the home, they immediately located and detained the shooting suspect, 55-year-old Luis Rick Sanchez. Sanchez, Diaz’ stepson, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of murder, Musgrove said. Investigators believe the shooting occurred during an argument between family members at the home. Police said they suspect Sanchez shot Diaz twice with a small-caliber handgun. Sanchez allegedly admitted to the crime, and the admission was captured by an officer-worn video camera, according to police.
