The victim of a fatal shooting in Alameda on Saturday night has been identified as 35-year-old Eric Lamont Franklin, an Alameda police spokesman said today. Franklin was killed in the 700 block of Eagle Avenue, near Webster Street, just before midnight on Saturday, according to Lt. Bill Scott.Franklin was apparently standing with a small group of people near the apartment where he was staying when the person he was talking to pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and began shooting, Scott said. There were six shell casings on the ground at the crime scene, Scott said. Franklin was hit three times. He was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where he was died from his injuries.Scott said it is not clear what was being discussed when the suspect shot Franklin. It is difficult to determine who was in the small group they were with because everyone ran when bullets began to fly, Franklin said. The investigation is ongoing, and police are following several leads, Scott said.”We’ve been working on this nonstop,” he said.Scott said Franklin was staying at his mother’s house on Eagle Avenue but he did not know where Franklin lived.
