Using $58,000 in state grant money, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety and police from Cotati and Sonoma State University are stepping up efforts to keep alcoholic beverages out of minors’ reach. During the campaign, the agencies will also focus on nuisance abatement and reducing binge drinking and over-service at licensed establishments, Rohnert Park police said. Last year, one out of every 10 adults approached by a minor decoy furnished or purchased alcohol for the minor — a 40 percent increase from two years earlier, when only one out of every 14 adults did so, according to police. All three agencies have received grants in the past, with the most recent awards in the 2006-07 and 2008-09 fiscal years. On July 1, the agencies were jointly awarded $57,990 by the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
