* Melchor Jayubo was sentenced to nine years in state prison after being convicted of sexual assault in Monterey County

A 55-year-old man was sentenced to nine years in state prison after being convicted of sexual assault and other charges related to the assault of his ex-girlfriend in January 2009, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced Friday. Melchor Jayubo, a Seaside resident, was convicted for forcible oral copulation, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, criminal threats, child endangerment, and assault in connection with an incident on Jan. 30, 2009. The incident began when Jayubo entered the home of the victim, who was his former girlfriend. She had their 2-year-old child in the home, according to the district attorney’s office. Jayubo refused to leave after being ordered by the victim, and then sexually assaulted her in the presence of their child. He then grabbed her neck and threatened to kill her, according to the district attorney’s office. Jayubo was convicted of the charges on July 27.
