A young man allegedly robbed a Radio Shack in Belmont this morning, running away on foot with stolen merchandise, Belmont police said. Marques Ackui Hicks, a 23-year-old transient, was arrested in connection to the crime shortly after police responded to a 9:15 a.m. call that the Radio Shack on 870 Ralston Ave. had been robbed. Police were told the robbery happened just before they were called. Hicks was seen allegedly stealing store merchandise by a store employee, police said. When the employee approached the suspect, he allegedly threatened the employee with a box cutter. The suspect then fled the store and apparently ran on foot toward a Belmont train station, police said. He was arrested shortly afterward around the 1000 block of Old Country Road, and is being held at the San Mateo County Jail on robbery charges. No one was injured, police said.
