Oakland police today released the names of two recent homicide victims. Harris Walter, 26, of Oakland, was killed in a shooting in the 1700 block of 10th Street, near Willow Street, in West Oakland at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, police spokesman Officer Jeff Thomason said. A second victim in that shooting, a 28-year-old Oakland man, was critically injured, Thomason said. He did not have information on any suspects in that shooting. Thomason also identified a man who was stabbed to death in the 1100 block of Ocean Avenue, near Alcatraz and San Pablo avenues, at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday as 54-year-old Wallace Scott, a transient from Oakland. The suspect in that case, 39-year-old Tamara Warren, of Oakland, is still at large, Thomason said. Homicides often increase in Oakland in the summertime, but the deaths of Scott and Walter were the city’s first killings since July 30, a period of about three weeks. Oakland has now had 54 homicides so far this year compared to 68 homicides at this time last year.
