An 18-year-old Salinas man was killed and two other men were injured in a shooting incident in Castroville early today, according to the Monterey County sheriff’s office. Sheriff’s officials said deputies were called to 11560 Jackson St. in Castroville at about 3:17 a.m. today to check on a report that a juvenile might be having a heart attack. They said deputies found three gunshot victims at the scene, including Salvatore Dentice, who was lying in the middle of the intersection of Jackson and Walsh streets with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two men who were shot were taken to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas but are expected to survive, according to Det. Sgt. Archie Warren. He said one victim has already been released from the hospital and the other is being held for observation. Warren said a fourth victim who was with the three other men
escaped injury. Warren declined to say if there is only one suspect or if there are multiple suspects, saying the investigation “is in its infancy.” Sheriff’s officials only released a general description of one suspect, saying he is a Hispanic man in his early 20s. An autopsy for Dentice will be conducted on Monday.
