A 32-year-old man was arrested Monday for allegedly arming himself with a gun and barricading himself and four children in an Oakland home, a police spokesman said. Rodney Norman was taken into custody from a home at 1925 E. 25th St. after his girlfriend called police at 5:37 a.m. and said Norman assaulted her and made death threats, Oakland police Officer Jeff Thomason said.
Police surrounded the home at 6:45 a.m. and made numerous calls to Norman, but he refused to come out, Thomason said. He was taken into custody at about 7:40 a.m. after officers spotted him sneaking out a back window of the home, Thomason said. The children who were in the home are 15, 7, 2 and 6 months. Norman is the father of at least one of them, Thomason said. Norman was arrested on suspicion of terrorist threats, brandishing a firearm, domestic battery, and violating a restraining order, Thomason said. Norman is being held in Santa Rita jail with his bail set at $85,000. His arraignment is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Department 112 at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland, according to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
