Police have detained five people in connection with a shooting Sunday night that left a German tourist dead and two others injured near Union Square, San Francisco police Sgt. Troy Dangerfield said.The shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. in the 400 block of Mason Street.The medical examiner’s office has identified the victim as Mechthild Schroeer, a 50-year-old resident of Minden, Germany.Dangerfield said the shooting appears to have begun as an altercation in the area and that investigators believe the victim was caught in the crossfire.The other victims, a man and a woman, were taken to a local hospital. They are expected to survive their injuries.The five suspects were detained early this morning and were still being questioned at around 11:15 a.m., Dangerfield said.The shooting was followed by a second shooting in front of 1015 Folsom, a club located at Folsom and Harriet streets, at about 1:55 a.m. today.Two women were shot in their torsos and taken to a local hospital. Updates on their conditions were not immediately available.
