A homeless man was fatally stabbed during a dispute with a drinking companion atop San Francisco’s Buena Vista Park early Tuesday, police said today. The stabbing occurred just before 10 a.m. at the park, located in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood near Baker and Haight streets, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.  According to Esparza, the victim, who is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, was drinking in the park with two other homeless men when an argument began and one of the men stabbed him in the chest. Others carried the victim down to the street and called police, but the man died at the scene, Esparza said. The motive for the attack is unknown, he said. The medical examiner’s office said this morning the man has not yet been identified.
Esparza said homicide inspectors questioned a 21-year-old man in connection with the stabbing Tuesday afternoon. He did not know whether the man was later arrested.
