Police arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a car stereo theft Sunday afternoon in Salinas, police said. At about 1:45 p.m., officers responded to a report that a theft was in progress in the parking lot of the Boys & Girls Club at 85 Maryal Dr., police said. The car being targeted, a red Chevy Tahoe, was one of several parked in the lot during a concert at the nearby Salinas Sports Complex. An officer stopped the suspect’s vehicle as it was exiting the lot and observed a stolen car stereo on the floor of the vehicle driven by Francisco Serrano, police said. Police determined that the stereo belonged to the Tahoe and that two passengers in Serrano’s vehicle did not participate in the theft, police said. One of the passengers, 28-year-old Fernando Tinajero, was later cited for possession of a methamphetamine pipe, police said. The second passenger was released without charges. Serrano, who was on parole, was booked into Monterey County Jail
for burglary and a parole violation, police said.
