* Hayward Police Searching for Missing Autistic Boy Matthew Bonds

Hayward police are asking for the public’s help finding a 14-year-old autistic boy with a history of running away from school and aimlessly riding BART. Matthew Bonds is emotionally unstable and is believed to have the mental capacity of a 6-year-old, police said. He ran away from his special education class at 22100 Princeton St. this morning and has not been seen since. At about 9:10 a.m., Matthew was excused to use the restroom and fled, police said. A teacher saw him running from the school, but school officials and police were unable to find him on the school grounds and in the adjacent neighborhood. He has run away about six times in the last two years, including once in early June. One time, he was gone for three days, police said. During the previous incidents, Matthew was found in and around BART stations. He has historically gotten on a train going to an unknown destination and ridden it until service stops, police said. Although he has shown resourcefulness in the past, police said they are worried about Matthew being further victimized.  Anyone who sees him is asked to call police and stay with Matthew until officers arrive. Matthew is described as an African American boy, 5 feet 7 inches
tall and 180 pounds.
