California Highway Patrol officers used a Taser gun to subdue a man who ran across lanes of Interstate Highway 880 after a crash in Hayward this morning. The crash happened at about 6:45 a.m. just north of Whipple Road. Initial reports indicated five vehicles had been involved in the crash, but CHP Officer A. Paulson said it now appears only about two cars were involved. One car overturned into a ditch, she said. No serious injuries were reported. The occupant of one car tried to flee after the crash and was shot with a Taser gun after he ran across northbound lanes, Paulson said. As of about 8 a.m. no lanes were blocked but northbound traffic was still moving slowly through the area because of all the activity.
