The eastbound lanes of Interstate Highway 580 and the eastbound lanes of Interstate Highway 980 to Highway 580 have reopened in Oakland near Grand Avenue, more than eight hours after an officer-involved shooting, a CHP spokesperson said. The emergency closures were lifted at about 8:23 a.m. The westbound lanes of Highway 580 will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time while the investigation continues, the CHP spokesperson said. The highways were closed after CHP officers pulled a truck over on westbound Highway 580 just west of Grand Avenue at around midnight, CHP
spokesman Sgt. Trent Cross said. The suspect, described only as a white male, was allegedly seen speeding and weaving in traffic. The officer who approached the suspect observed multiple weapons and firearms in the vehicle, Cross said. The suspect was also wearing body armor, Cross added. The suspect allegedly began shooting at officers when additional
CHP units arrived on the scene. The suspect was shot an unknown number of times by officers and taken to Highland Hospital in serious condition, Cross said.
