A Salinas police officer patrolling the Kiddie-Capers parade on Saturday evening saved a choking victim by using the Heimlich maneuver, according to a statement from the Salinas police department. Officer Jeff Munoz was traveling north on South Main Street at about 6:20 p.m. when he saw two people slapping the back of a 60-year-old woman who was choking and losing consciousness. Munoz applied the Heimlich maneuver, which dislodged the food the victim had been eating.The woman began breathing again and color returned to her face. She was treated and released by emergency personnel at the scene.Afterwards, a crowd of about 200 people in front of Salinas High School gave Munoz a standing ovation.
