* Adrian Sarmiento arrested for alleged murder of Gilbert Flores in San Jose

On Friday, June 25, 2010, 54-year-old San Jose resident Gilbert Flores was taken to Regional Medical Center, 225 North Jackson Street, San Jose, while unconscious.  He was taken to the hospital by friends who claimed he had fallen and hit his head.

On Wednesday, June 30, 2010, Mr. Flores succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.  The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner – Coroner’s office received information that Mr. Flores could have been the victim of an assault, where he sustained his fatal injuries.  The San Jose Police Department’s homicide unit launched an investigation into Mr. Gilbert’s death, which marked San Jose’s 14th homicide of the year.

The investigation led to the identification of 34-year-old Adrian De La Torre Sarmiento as the suspect in this homicide.  Sarmiento was in custody at the Santa Clara County Jail on a prior, unrelated charge.  The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office has charged Sarmiento with Mr. Flores’ homicide.  Sarmiento remains in custody at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
