Law enforcement officers will be out in force this holiday weekend cracking down on impaired drivers, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said today. Police officers, sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers throughout the Bay Area will be putting additional patrols on the streets and highways, running checkpoints to look for drunken drivers and assigning officers to do roving saturation patrols looking specifically for impaired drivers. Last year, 30 people in California were killed over the Fourth of July weekend in alcohol-related crashes and another 363 were injured, Lee said. In Contra Costa County seven people were injured.
