Two men robbed the US Bank in Montgomery Village in east Santa Rosa today and escaped in a vehicle that was carjacked in Oakland Monday afternoon, Santa Rosa police said.The men entered the bank at 2308 Magowan Drive armed with semi-automatic pistols at about 9:15 p.m., Sgt. Steve Fraga said.One suspect jumped the counter and demanded money from employees while the other suspect held other bank employees and customers at gunpoint, Fraga said.A third suspect drove away with the robbers in a gray Ford Crown Victoria, Fraga said. A witness gave police the Ford’s license plate number, and the vehicle was found within minutes parked on a nearby street, Fraga said.The vehicle had been carjacked Monday in Oakland. In both robberies, the suspects were described as two black men, Fraga said.Today’s bank robbery was similar to a robbery of the Umpqua Bank in American Canyon on June 14, Fraga said.Two black men entered that bank at 3417 Broadway at 9:30 a.m. and ordered four employees to the ground, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.One suspect pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the tellers while the other suspect vaulted the counter and took cash from a drawer, the sheriff’s office said.The suspects fled in a dark-colored sedan with a handicapped placard hanging from the rear view mirror, the sheriff’s office said.
