Two men were arrested Friday night in Scotts Valley after officers discovered drug paraphernalia and around $2,600 worth of stolen tools in their vehicle, according to police. At around 7:45 p.m. Friday, a person reported two men in a white sport utility vehicle on Lockewood Lane had offered to trade drugs or alcohol in exchange for gasoline, police said. They said the car had run out of gas. The person reported the car then drove toward Mt. Hermon Road. Police located the vehicle at a gas station at 201 Mt. Hermon Road, where occupants confirmed to police that they had run out of gas but denied offering to trade drugs for gas. One of the occupants was on probation and the officer was able to search the vehicle. During the search, the officer found narcotics paraphernalia and approximately $2,600 worth of stolen power and hand tools. The tools had previously been reported stolen in three separate cases in Santa Cruz over the past year, according to police. The victims of the thefts responded to the scene and were able to identify the stolen property. Both suspects, 36-year-old Benjamin Hindard and 33-year-old Sam Eglite, were arrested and booked at the Santa Cruz County jail.
