* Oakley Police Officers Lance Morrison, Mark Johnson and Curtis Berkely Honored for Arresting Drunk Drivers

Sixty Contra Costa County police officers and sheriff’s deputies were honored Tuesday for their efforts to arrest drunken drivers, according to the sheriff’s office. The event was held at the Mira Vista Country Club in El Cerrito, Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said. Three Oakley police officers were given special recognition for making the most arrests of impaired drivers in 2009. They include Lance Morrison, who made 212 arrests; Mark Johnson, who made 60 arrests; and Curtis Berkely, who made 52 arrests, according to Lee. Statewide, 1,355 people were killed by drunken drivers in 2008 and another 28,457 were injured. In Contra Costa County, a total of 4,837 people were arrested for drunken driving in 2008. The event was hosted by the California Office of Traffic Safety, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Contra Costa County Avoid 25 program.
