Police in Santa Cruz are asking for the public’s help in identifying possible suspects in four vehicle arsons reported over the weekend. The first incident was reported in the 500 block of Market Street at around 2:50 a.m. Sunday, according to Santa Cruz police. A resident reported hearing an explosion before finding his Honda Passport on fire in the driveway of his home. A second explosion was reported by several residents near the 100 block of Grunewald Court at around 3:15 a.m., police said. A Toyota pickup and a BMW sedan parked in the street were found on fire. The following morning, police were called to investigate an arson reported in the 400 block of Grant Street where a Jaguar appeared to have partially burned overnight. No suspects were seen or heard, police said. Arson investigators believe an accelerant was used to ignite the fires, which appear to be related. Anyone who might have observed any suspicious activity in the areas near the vehicle fires is asked to contact the Santa Cruz police investigations unit at (831) 420-5820.
