Two burglary suspects were arrested in Daly City on Tuesday after one climbed on a roof to escape police and the other broke into a family’s home and grabbed a 2-year-old girl, police said today. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects, 24-year-old John Veth and 26-year-old Kinson Phin, trying to pry open the rear door of a home on Bepler Street at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, police said.The witnesses called 911, but the suspects managed to enter the home, ransack several rooms and take jewelry before officers arrived, according to police.Veth, after seeing the officers, hopped on the home’s roof and jumped from roof to roof trying to flee the officers, police said.Meanwhile, Phin fled in the opposite direction and entered another home occupied by a mother and her two young children, according to police.Phin picked up a 2-year-old girl, and then tossed her down on her face just before the officers made their arrest, police said. The girl was injured but is expected to recover.Veth was also taken into custody, and both were booked into San Mateo County jail on suspicion of residential burglary. Police also charged Veth with resisting arrest, and Phin with kidnapping and child endangerment.Veth and Phin are both believed to have been involved in several other burglaries and to have stolen property at an East Bay flea market, police said.
