A man who was fatally shot by police in Fremont after he allegedly confronted them with a large knife early Sunday morning was identified by the Fremont Police Department today as 30-year-old Juan Mosso, of Newark. Fremont officers went to the Camden Village apartment complex at 38000 Camden St. at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday after the estranged wife’s current boyfriend reported that Mosso had attacked him and kicked him out of the apartment.The boyfriend said the estranged wife was bleeding and that Mosso was threatening to kill her, police said. There were three children in the apartment, ages 2, 4 and 9, according to police. Three arriving officers tried to make contact with Mosso. They did not get a response but heard an argument inside, Sgt. Dan O’Connell said.The officers forced entry into the apartment and were confronted by Mosso, who was armed with a knife, according to O’Connell.Police then shot and killed Mosso, O’Connell said.The woman and her current boyfriend suffered bruises and abrasions during a scuffle with Mosso, police said. The three children were unhurt.The three officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident. They are all veteran officers, according to police.
