* Hayward postal employee was found at a dump in San Leandro

The body of a Hayward postal employee was found at a dump in San Leandro today, according to a Hayward police lieutenant.Lt. Chris Orrey said police aren’t releasing the victim’s name or any identifying information pending notification of the victim’s next of kin.Police received a report of a missing employee from the post office at 24438 Santa Clara St. in Hayward at 4:45 a.m. today, Orrey said.Officers who responded to the post office determined its trash dumpster had recently been emptied, she said.Police contacted Waste Management of Alameda County and discovered that a trash collector had picked up the dumpster’s contents some time before the employee was reported missing, according to Orrey.Officers went to Waste Management’s transfer center at 2615 Davis St. in San Leandro and determined where the trash from the post office had been unloaded, Orrey said. Those piles were searched, and amid the trash, the officers eventually found a dead body that matched the description of the missing post office employee, Orrey said.Waste Management, U.S. Post office staff and the U.S. Postal Inspectors are helping Hayward police with the investigation, she said.
