A man was arrested Friday after apparently leaving his 2-year-old daughter in a vehicle while he went to get a haircut at the Hilltop Mall in Richmond, a police sergeant said today. Kali Jo Lawrence Smith was arrested after the child was spotted in the car at about 11:25 a.m. Friday in the 2500 block of Hilltop Mall Road, police Sgt. Mitch Peixoto said. Smith told authorities he went in to get a haircut and left the girl in there because she “was sleeping and he didn’t want to wake her up,” Peixoto said. The girl was slightly dehydrated but was otherwise alright, according to Peixoto. A fire official took a temperature reading in the car and found it was 104 degrees in there, he said. The girl’s mother came and picked her up from the scene, and Smith was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, Peixoto said.
