A couple who died in an apparent murder-suicide in their Antioch home Thursday has been identified as Linda and Robert Ellingson, according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.Police first learned of the incident shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday when they received a call from a man who said Robert Ellingson had just called him and said he had shot his wife and was about to shoot himself, police said.A short time later, neighbors called to report hearing shots fired at the couple’s home at 1756 Mount Hamilton Drive.Police responded to the home and attempted to contact the residents, but there was no response. At about 11 a.m., the Police Department’s SWAT team entered the home and found Robert and Linda Ellingson, both 45 years old, dead in the master bedroom. It appears both died of gunshot wounds, police said.Police determined that the couple’s two children, a 13-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, had not been home when the shootings happened. They are staying with family members and are safe, police said. There had been no prior reports of domestic violence at the home, but investigators have learned the couple had been having marital and financial problems. The neighborhood surrounding the home was blocked off and residents were told to stay indoors until police determined there was no threat to the public. Nearby Dallas Ranch Middle School was briefly locked down until the bodies were discovered.
