* James Johnson fatally shot in Oakland on Eighth Street

A 43-year-old man was fatally shot in west Oakland this afternoon, a police spokesman said.James Lee Johnson, an Oakland resident, was killed in a shooting reported at 3 p.m. in the 1100 block of Eighth Street, according to police Officer Jeff Thomason.Officers arrived and found Johnson lying on the ground and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Thomason said.Investigators believe a male suspect approached the victim on the street and shot him.No arrests have been made and no suspect information was available as of tonight, according to Thomason.Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Oakland Police Department’s homicide section at (510) 238-3821.The shooting is the city’s 35th homicide of 2010.
