A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured in a crash in Union City early Saturday morning after at least one bullet struck the car, according to police.Officers responded to the 1500 block of Decoto Road at about 2:15 a.m. and found a vehicle that had crashed into a light pole, police said.The teen, the only occupant of the vehicle, had suffered major facial injuries. His car caught fire and officers helped him escape the burning vehicle, according to police. The car quickly became engulfed in flames after the teen had gotten out. Officers discovered at least one bullet had struck the vehicle, but the teen was not struck by gunfire, police said.The boy was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is expected to survive.Witnesses said a light-colored vehicle had been driving on Decoto Road before the crash and that at least one person inside that car had fired at the victim’s car.
