An 18-year-old Pinole man was shot in the leg Thursday afternoon in what police are investigating as a gang related shooting. The man and his friend were near Fifth and San Pablo avenues when police said the men exchanged stiff glances and harsh words with three Hispanic males in a green car tricked out with tall rims. As the green car came to a stop, a passenger opened his door and fired multiple shots at the two men, striking the Pinole man in the leg. Then, the green car and its occupants left the area. Police said at least two of the passengers in the car donned red baseball caps with the letter “P” on them. Emergency medical technicians tended to the Pinole man on the scene before he was transported by ambulance to Fernandez Park and then flown by helicopter to John Muir Hospital.
