* Wells Fargo in Cupertino contained a phony bomb after bank robbery

A suspicious package left behind this afternoon by bank robbers at a Wells Fargo in Cupertino contained a phony bomb, Sgt. Rick Sung said.The Santa Clara County sheriff’s bomb squad completed inspecting the package and is allowing people to return to the bank in the 23000 block of Homestead Road. A nearby Starbucks was also evacuated, Sung said. The robbery happened at about 11:40 a.m. when two males wearing facemasks pulled up in a gray sedan, entered the bank and demanded money, Sung said.They grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and took off, but left behind a duffel bag or package that appeared suspicious, he said.The bomb squad inspected the package with the help of a police dog and a robot, Sung said.The first suspect was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. The second was about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a heavy build. Both were wearing loose clothing and facemasks, Sung said.No one was harmed in the robbery and no weapon was seen, he said. Homestead Road, which was shut down in both directions, has been reopened, Sung said.
