Police are investigating a shooting in downtown Morgan Hill on Saturday night that injured a 33-year-old Gilroy man.Officers responded to reports of shots fired about 10:25 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Second Street and Monterey Road, police said.Upon arrival they found the victim, identified as Omar Rubio, near the front of Dirty’s Tap and Taco bar at 17330 Monterey Road. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back and a cut to the back of his head. Rubio was transported to Regional Medical Center of San Jose with life-threatening injuries, but police said he is currently in stable condition.Detectives determined that the shooting stemmed from a fight involving a group of people in the back parking lot of a downtown mall, police said. Witnesses told police that when Rubio and another male involved in the fight started running away, a man wearing a white shirt and blue shorts fired several rounds from a small handgun as he was chasing Rubio. Rubio was struck in the back but managed to continue running to the front of Dirty’s Tap and Taco, where he called for help.The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s, about 5 feet 7 to five feet 9 inches tall and about 150 pounds.
