Police shot a man in Union City on Saturday night after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at them, a captain said today. The Union City Police Department received a call from a resident at the Green Haven Apartments at about 8:40 p.m. who said they could hear a female crying and yelling for help. Then a second call came in from another female who reported her stepfather had armed himself with a gun and was with her mother in their apartment. Officers went to the apartment and learned the man was upset over his relationship with his wife. The woman, who had been inside with him, was able to leave the apartment. As she left, officers say they saw that the man had a shotgun. After a couple hours, the man allegedly pointed the shotgun at officers and attempted to shoot at them. The officers then shot the man. The suspect was shot four times and underwent surgery at a local hospital, according to the Police Department. He is expected to recover. No one else was injured.
