* David Torres of Gilroy, was arrested in connection with double fatal crash

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a double fatal crash in downtown Gilroy early this morning, police said.David Torres, of Gilroy, was arrested on three charges, including DUI causing injury, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and fleeing the scene of an accident after committing vehicular manslaughter, according to police.The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. near Sixth and Alexander streets.The victims, one of whom had been ejected from the car, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office identified one victim as 30-year-old San Martin resident Joel Zabala Jr. The second victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.Torres was the driver of the car and initially ran away, but was eventually located nearby and taken by helicopter to a local trauma center, police said. He was booked into Santa Clara County main jail after he was treated for minor injuries.Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Investigator Nestor Quinones at (408) 846-0300.
