Rohnert Park police responded to a possible robbery at a Check ‘n Go check-cashing business Tuesday afternoon. The public safety department was notified of a possible robbery at the store in the FoodMaxx Plaza on Rohnert Park Expressway after a passerby saw a man with a black handgun enter the business around 12:55 p.m., Sgt. Jeff Nicks said. The passerby said a store employee then put a “closed” sign on the door and turned out the lights, Nicks said. The suspect was described as a black man in his early 20s wearing khaki shorts, a white shirt and black hat. Officers set up a perimeter and told other nearby businesses to lock their doors. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office’s helicopter and a Petaluma Police department K9 unit also responded.
A man matching the description left the Check ‘n GO about 20 minutes later and walked north toward Rohnert Park Expressway, Nicks said. He was taken into custody without incident. Police were still trying to identify the suspect Tuesday afternoon and the investigation is continuing, Nicks said.
